Common First-Time Mistakes with A313 Vitamin-A Skincare (and How to Avoid Them)

Starting a vitamin-A product is exciting, and that excitement is often where things go wrong. Most of the tightness, flaking and “this isn’t for me” moments people describe in their first weeks come from how the product is used, not from the product itself. Whether you’re starting with the A313 Cream with Retinol & Vitamin A, the Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizing Face Cream or the A313 Eye Serum, these are the mistakes we see most often, and how to avoid them.

Doing too much, too soon

Using it every night from day one. Skin needs time to get used to vitamin A. Jumping straight to nightly use is the most common reason for tightness and flaking in the first two weeks. Two or three evenings a week is a calmer start.

Using more product. A thicker layer doesn’t work faster; it mostly raises the chance of irritation. A pea-sized amount covers the whole face, and a rice-grain amount is enough for both eyes.

Applying to damp skin. On freshly washed, still-damp skin, vitamin A can feel more intense. If your skin is sensitive, wait until it’s fully dry.

Combining too many things at once

Exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs), scrubs, other retinoids and strong peels all add up. Using them on the same night as vitamin A is a quick route to skin that feels irritated and tight. While you’re getting started, keep the rest of your evening routine simple: a gentle cleanser, A313, and a plain moisturiser if needed. Introduce one new product at a time so you can tell what your skin is reacting to.

Forgetting how delicate the eye area is

The skin around the eyes is thinner than on the rest of the face, and products can travel. Common slips: applying right up to the lash line, putting product on the moving eyelid, or rubbing instead of patting. Keep the Eye Serum to the orbital bone, tap it in gently with your ring finger, and let it absorb before anything else goes on. If the area feels dry or gritty, cut back to every other evening.

Judging results too early (or by the wrong signs)

Skin renews itself roughly every four to six weeks, and more slowly with age, so two weeks is too soon to decide anything. Give a consistent routine around eight to twelve weeks before you judge it. Equally, a tingling or stinging feeling is not a sign that the product is “working”. Mild dryness early on can be normal; persistent redness, burning or swelling is not, and is a signal to stop.

And one mistake that undoes a lot of good work: skipping sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum SPF every morning while you use vitamin A, even on cloudy autumn days.

How to start with A313 without the common mistakes

  • Choose one A313 product to begin with, and start on two or three evenings a week.
  • Apply to clean, fully dry skin: a pea-sized amount for the face, a rice grain for both eyes.
  • On the other evenings, use only a plain, fragrance-free moisturiser.
  • Keep acids, scrubs and other retinoids off your A313 nights.
  • If your skin stays comfortable for two weeks, add an evening; if it feels tight or flaky, go back a step.
  • Wear SPF every morning.

When to ask for advice

Talk to a pharmacist or skincare professional before starting if you have very sensitive or reactive skin, eczema, rosacea or broken skin, if you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, or if you use any prescribed skin treatment, including prescription retinoids. Stop using the product and seek advice if you notice ongoing redness, burning, swelling or itching.

Most first-time mistakes come down to impatience. A slow, simple start gives your skin the best chance to settle in, and makes it far easier to keep going with A313 for the long run.
